Choosing a course should not be a simple task, in fact it is a very important task. A decision with regard to selecting a course should be made wisely and with careful consideration, after all studying can take up a lot of your time and energy depending on the career you intend to go into.
The course you may be thinking about could last hours, weeks, months or years and you may also have other commitments in your life that you have to attend to you therefore want to make sure that (A) the course you are considering is suitable for you and (B) any time spent studying a considered course is worthwhile to you.
When we say worthwhile and suitable we mean in terms of-
- Is the course going to qualify you to a land a job in your desired career at the end of the duration of the course?
- Is studying this course necessary for you to become what you want to become or is there another route?
- Is this course accredited will it be recognised in the UK or abroad even as you may be planning on living and working abroad in the future?
- The cost, are you getting value for your money or could there possibly be other education providers offering the same exact course for a cheaper price?
- Is the location of the course suitable for you and easy enough to get to, is it close to home or far away?
- If you study this course will it fit in with other commitments you may have, such as child care, work and hobbies.
- Is studying this one course enough or are you required to study higher levels to get to where you want to be. Are you willing to do this if it may be necessary to do so taking costs, other commitments and time into consideration. For example, it takes at least 6 years to become a solicitor.
There is nothing worse than spending money on a course and then finding out later down the line that it either wasn’t the right course you needed to do to become qualified in your chosen career or you simply lose interest because deep down it was not what you really wanted to do and you end up dropping out from your course because the course content was not what you expected and the stress of trying to juggle all of your commitments with studying becomes daunting and overwhelming to you.
